The Records Division is primarily responsible for the maintenance of Case Records, Pistol Permits, and assisting public with report requests. The division serves an important public function, providing copies of accident/case reports, pistol permits and background checks as requested. Requests for obtaining records will be processed in the order in which it was received and records personnel will respond by email advising the requester of the availability and associated fee(s). Reports are generally available within 5-7 business days. Additionally, copies of reports may be requested by mail if the appropriate fee is included with the request.

Copies of police records may be picked up in person from the Records Department during the days and times listed above. Accident reports can be picked up without prior notification, whereas incident and/or arrest reports may take longer to process and require prior written notification.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The New Milford Police Department is required under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to disclose certain records when such request is made in writing. However, some records may not be available for release because of certain exceptions or exemptions, or they may have been destroyed in accordance with state statute. Criminal Records

Criminal Records can be obtained in person from the Records Division only by past or current residents of the Town of New Milford.  Please bring a valid photo ID and completed form “Release for records checks”. Only Town of New Milford records will be searched.

For a statewide criminal history check, you may visit the State Police Bureau of Identification.

Accepted Payment Forms: Exact cash, check or money order’s only: Credit cards are not accepted.

  1. Download Pistol Permit Application and Submit notarized application to Record officer. Application for Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers (DPS-799-C) Application must be notarized.
